By: Nick Grays, PR Intern Madison, WI – May 17, 2010. The Mallards have announced former player Randy Molina will be an assistant coach this summer. Molina enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Mallards after spending three seasons with the club as a player from 2005-2007. He currently serves as an assistant coach at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. Molina earned All-NCAA regional honors twice in his four year career at Stanford University. In his senior season in 2008, not only was he an All-Pac 10 selection, but he helped the Cardinals reach the College World Series by batting .329 with 43 runs scored and 42 RBI in 63 games, all career highs. The Stanford alum was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft, where he went on to play for their affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League. While there, the infielder hit for a .248 batting average, 18 runs and 12 RBI. In 2009, he played professionally for the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier Independent League. During his three consecutive summers with the Madison Mallards, Molina played in 45 or more games while accumulating at least 15 RBI each season. Molina’s best summer was in 2007 when he was named to the Northwoods League All-Star Team and hit for .342 with 66 hits, 34 runs, 15 doubles, 4 home-runs and 39 RBI. “It’s always exciting to bring back former Mallards, especially Randy, who played here three summers and had his number retired in 2008. He’s very passionate about this organization and will be a very good asset in helping our players grind through a 70-game schedule for the first time,” said Mallards Manager C.J. Thieleke. Randy Molina joins Manager C.J. Thieleke and Assistant Coach Matt Rademacher for this year’s Madison Mallards coaching staff. Meanwhile, Pitching Coach Jason Immekus will not be joining the team this summer. The Madison Mallards are members of the 16-team summer collegiate Northwoods League. Opening Day is slated for Wednesday, June 2, at 7:05 p.m. against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Single-game and group tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 608.246.4277.
