How did you get into baseball?
Growing up I played basketball and football, but the sport I loved the most was definitely baseball. Even when I was the scout team quarterback for UW, I always missed the game of baseball and was itching to play again.

Who were your childhood role models?
I admired both Roger Clemens and Ken Griffey Jr. I liked Roger’s toughness and how he could dominate hitters the way he could with his overpowering fastball. Griffey simply had the sweetest swing and was so fun to watch.

How will the past two seasons playing for the Mallards help you this year?
I definitely know what to expect on and off the diamond each day. I’ve also become more comfortable pitching in tight situations and have learned to feed off the crowd’s energy. It’s exciting to play in front of so many people, scouts including.

What is your biggest strength on the field?
I take pride in being even-keel and not getting too high or too low after games. Baseball is a game that can make you look pretty stupid if your head isn’t in the right place during certain situations.

What’s to come in your career?
Of course I’d like to get drafted by a major league team and continue to play the game, but if that doesn’t happen, there’s a number of different avenues I want to pursue. I’ve always been interested in the Navy Seals and the FBI, so joining either one would be a dream come true. Becoming a teacher and/or coach are other options I could pursue as well.

Any message to the fans of Madison?
They are hands down the best fans in any collegiate summer league throughout the country. There is no better place to play the game of baseball than Madison, and I’m very excited about coming to play for another year. The energy and excitement they provide for us is something I will never forget.

Full count, bases loaded, you’re up by one in the bottom of the ninth inning against the opposing team’s top slugger. What pitch do you throw?
A good hard slider.
