Hometown: De Pere, WI
Sophomore outfielder/infielder Adam Pasono had a solid ’07 spring for Xavier University. In 58 games played Pasono batted .270 with 32 runs scored, 11 doubles, 1 homerun, 24 runs batted in and seven stolen bases. The De Pere, Wisconsin native was sidelined in ’06 for the Musketeers with an injury but managed to play in 23 games and finish second on the team with a .291 average. Pasono’s Father Michael played college ball at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and this summer Adam looks to add a little long ball to his resume.
So Adam, how did you get into playing baseball?
“I started playing when I was younger of course and I always idolized Ken Griffey Jr. I wanted my swing to resemble his and play the field the way that he does. Griffey and my Dad, who played college ball, were two people that I idolized when understanding the game at a young age.”
So with Griffey are you more a Mariners or a Reds fan?
“Both actually, I was a Mariners fan when he played for Seattle and then when he moved to Cincinnati I became a Reds fan, I think a little of my decision to go to Xavier was influenced by Griffey and the Reds.”
Why did you choose to go to Xavier?
“Simple, I wanted to play division one baseball. The city, the campus, and the coaching staff gave me insight into were I wanted to play ball and right from the start I knew Xavier would be the right fit for me.”
How has your game developed from high school to college?
“I had to develop a faster pace in college and actually I was primarily a shortstop in high school. I switched more to the outfield in college to get more playing time and then had to change my game and learn how to deal with the competition.”
How would you get ready for a game?
“I like to get some rest before the game and then get to the ball park early enough to take batting practice and then get a bite to eat. Usually afterwards I will hit the weight room as well.”
Where do you see yourself in the next five years as a ball player?
“Hopefully still playing ball somewhere.”
What memory stands out the most from earlier playing days?
“I have so many memories but probably winning the summer state championship for my legion team in 2003 and 2004. We also were runner-up in 2005, so it was great to be apart of all that success for a few years.”
What do you think of C.J. as a coach?
“C.J. is great; he is such a great players coach. He loves to win and loves challenges such as I do.”
What are you going to work on this summer to help improve your game?
“Well I am going to change my stance a little bit to help give me more power to the gaps and the fence. I also want to concentrate on taking pitches to the opposite field and not have to pull everything to left.”
If you were left on a deserted island what two items would you need?
“Wow that’s a hard question; I have never been asked that before. Probably just a television and food or drinks. I wouldn’t need anything else I think.” |
