Paul Molitor to Appear at the "Duck Pond" July 3rd
Madison, WI - April 11, 2013. The Madison Mallards have announced they will host the inaugural Home Talent Classic game featuring Milwaukee Brewers Hall-of-Famer Paul Molitor on Wednesday July 3rd at 6:05 pm. Molitor will be available for autographs from 4:00 to 6:30 pm.
The Rhythm & Booms Fireworks show is tentatively scheduled for July 3rd following the Home Talent Classic and will be confirmed at the April 16th City Council meeting. The Home Talent Classic will replace the MLB/Mallards Alumni Game that was previously scheduled for June 29th.
Molitor, who was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004, played for the Brewers for 15 seasons (1978-1992) and was a 5-time All-Star selection during that span. He also played for the Toronto Blue Jays (1993-1995) and Minnesota Twins (1996-1998). He led the Blue Jays to a World Series title in 1993 and was named World Series MVP after becoming the first individual to hit two doubles, two triples, and two home runs in a World Series. He finished his career with a .305 batting average, 3,319 hits, 234 home runs, 1,307 RBIs, and 504 stolen bases.
The Home Talent Classic will feature the best young players from all 44 Home Talent League teams. The Home Talent League is Wisconsin's largest adult amateur baseball league. The league started in 1929 and now has grown to 44 teams in south-central Wisconsin. The Home Talent League will also play their annual All-Star game at the "Duck Pond" on Friday July 19th at 7:05 pm.
Mallards season and Package A 7-Game Pack holders will receive tickets for the Home Talent Classic. Tickets will be sold the same as a normal Mallards home game for this event. The Mallards will also show a baseball themed movie on the brand new Zimbrick Honda Video Board following the fireworks display.
The Mallards will host their season opener against the Eau Claire Express on May 29th at 7:05 pm at the "Duck Pond." Single-game tickets will go on sale April 27th.
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season.
