Madison, WI – August 16, 2010. Tyler Jones (Madison College) will take the mound for the Mallards in an attempt to sweep the Green Bay Bullfrogs and earn a playoff berth in the final regular season game at 7:05 p.m.

Playoff scenario:
Thanks to the La Crosse Loggers (22-13, 39-30 overall) 5-1 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks (23-11, 41-28), the Mallards (23-13, 40-29) are still in contention for the second playoff spot. With a Mallards win over the Bullfrogs tonight and another Loggers win over the Woodchucks, the Mallards will be playoff-bound as they sit one game back of the Woodchucks and own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

In the case that the Mallards make the playoffs, Madison would host the South Division First-Half Champion Eau Claire Express in a game Tuesday, at 7:05 p.m. at the “Duck Pond.”

Games two and three (if needed) would then switch back to Carson Park in Eau Claire. The Northwoods League Championship Series will begin Friday. In the North Division, the Rochester Honkers won the first-half championship, while the St. Cloud River Bats won the second-half.

Jones (4-5) is coming off a tough loss in La Crosse on August 12th. In three and one-thirds inning, Jones walked a season-high four batters while allowing six runs on nine hits. Jones will be making his third appearance against the Bullfrogs this season. Through six innings, Jones has allowed no runs on six hits while striking out three against Green Bay.

On the season, Jones has a 2.93 ERA and 38 strikeouts. He ranks second on the team behind Rusty Shellhorn (Washington State) with 58.1 innings pitched.

The Bullfrogs starter is TBA. As a staff, the Bullfrogs’ pitchers have a 39-30 record and 492 strikeouts in 595.2 innings pitched. Their 3.63 ERA is good for third in the league behind the Mallards (3.60) and Express (2.92).

Monday marks the Mallards last regular season game and of course, it's Fan Appreciation Night. We're going out with a bang as the Super Bowl-commercial playing tribute band, Mini-Kiss will perform a special set only for Mallards fans. All fans will receive a Poblocki Paving Team Poster! Also, the bat formely belonging to Eddie Gaedel, the shortest person to ever appear in a major league game (he was 3-foot-7), will be on display before and during the game. His great-nephew, current Mallard All-Star Kyle Gaedele (Valparaiso), will be on-hand for photo opportunities.

Inside the Numbers:
The Mallards are tied with the Woodchucks for the third best home-record in the South Division at 21-13 behind the Loggers (24-11) and Express (27-8). Meanwhile, The Bullfrogs come in with the second best road record (20-14) in the league, trailing only the Express (21-13).

In only three games, Justin Scanlon (Madison College) is hitting .400 (6-for-15) with four RBI and four runs scored. Scanlon will play baseball at Michigan State next spring.

Update on single-season records about to fall:

With one game left in the regular season, the 2010 Mallards have already accomplished quite a bit in the record books. Here is a list summarizing the franchise records they have surpassed as a team:

Runs in a single season – 393 (Previous Record: 371 in 2007)
At Bats – 2345 (Previous Record: 2280 in 2009)
Hits – 673 (Previous Record: 614 in 2009)
RBI – 335 (Previous Record: 308 in 2008)
Total Bases – 954 (Previous Record: 905 in 2009)
Doubles – tied with 123 (Previous Record: 123 in 2009)

Jacob Esch (Georgia Tech) hit the team’s 16th triple on Saturday night to pull the team within one of 2008’s mark of 17 in a single-season.

This year’s Mallards can also own the highest single-season batting average (.287), slugging percentage (.407) and on-base percentage (.374) with a solid performance at the plate tonight.

All-Star Adam Davis (Illinois) is one double away from surpassing Rob Lyerly’s (Charlotte) 2008 franchise record of 19 doubles in a single-season.

All-Star outfielder Kyle Gaedele has crafted quite the resume for his self as well. Here is the list of franchise record he now owns:

Hits – 88 (Previous Record: 86 by Ryan Rogowski in 2005)
Home Runs – tied with 9 (Previous Record: 9 by Harold Riggins in 2009)
Runs – 56 (Previous Record: 54 by Jordan Comadena in 2007)
At Bats – 279 (Previous Record: 259 by Jordan Comadena in 2007)
