Preview: Mallards try to make it four in a row in La Crosse on Monday Night

Last Night's Box Score

By: Nick Grays, PR Intern

La Crosse, WI –July 5, 2010. The streaking Mallards will attempt to extend their winning streak to four games at Copeland Park versus the La Crosse Loggers at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night. Matt Morgan (Purdue) will toe the rubber for the Mallards while the Loggers send out Stayton Thomas (Texas) for his second start of the season.

After a three-game sweep of the Green Bay Bullfrogs (16-14), the Madison Mallards (13-16) are now four-and-a-half games back of the division leading Eau Claire Express (18-12). The Loggers (16-14) will be looking to win this series badly as they sit two games back of the Express with only three days left in the season’s first-half.

Morgan (1-1) was emerging as one of the Mallards’ best pitchers until he hit a road-block against the Wisconsin Woodchucks on June 29th. The junior right-hander lasted only three-and-one-thirds innings while giving up six earned runs on nine hits to pick up his first loss of the season.

Prior to that start, Morgan had only given up three earned runs and six hits through fifteen innings.

Thomas (0-1) was unlucky in his last start as the Loggers were not able to provide any run support for their starter in a 1-0 loss to the Express on June 29th.  The 5’11” right-hander pitched six innings of two-hit baseball while allowing the only run (an unearned run) in the game. He also struck out two while walking two.

Inside The Numbers:
Mallards’ catcher Adam Davis (Illinois) ranks second in the league with a .565 slugging percentage. In his last ten games, Davis is hitting .368 (7-for-19) with six RBI and seven runs scored.

The team returns to the "Duck Pond" on Wednesday for three games, including the first two against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, beginning at 7:05 p.m. all three days. Wednesday is Cash Craze Night at the ballpark as the first 1,000 fans 21+ will receive an envelope containing anywhere from $1 to $100! Also, Thursday is the always-popular Great Dane Summertime St. Patty's Night with the first 1,000 fans receiving a special St. Patty's Maynard bobblehead! Finally, Friday will mark the debut of Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey Night with entertainment all game long!
