Trey Watkins - Madison Mallards

| Profile |
| Watkins, originally from Montz, Louisiana, made 32 starts in the outfield for LSU as a sophomore, finishing with five triples, two home runs, 14 stolen bases, 15 RBI, and 40 runs scored. Those triples were the third-highest mark for a player in the Southeastern Conference in 2010. Unfortunately, Watkins was forced to miss five weeks of the season from April 3 to May 8 after suffering a dislocated elbow while attempting to catch a fly ball on April 2 against Georgia. When he did return, Watkins delivered one of the biggest hits of the 2010 season for the Tigers when he smacked a two-RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning to give LSU a walk-off, 11-10 NCAA Los Angeles Regional victory over UC Irvine on June 4. Prior to LSU, Watkins had a standout freshman season at LSU-Eunice Junior College where he hit .418 with six home runs, 26 doubles, 71 RBI, and a school-record 58 bases. He also broke the LSU-Eunice single-season records for walks (49), runs scored (95), and hit-by-pitches (18). Mallards Field Manager Greg Labbe thinks it will be hard for other Northwoods League teams to game plan for Watkins’ multi-faceted offensive repertoire. “Trey is the type of game-changer who every manager in the league loves to have at his disposal and other managers hate to game-plan for,” said Labbe. “He finds ways to get on base and when he does, he puts enormous pressure on the defense. Trey is a solid defender in left field, and should be a mainstay out there throughout the summer for us.” |
