Steve Schmitt - Owner / President

Schmitt's passion for the game and extraordinary attention to customer service are two big reasons why Mallards baseball has become a summertime mainstay in Madison. Since 2001 the Mallards have made the playoffs five times, including a Northwoods League Championship in 2004, and appearances in the Championship Series in 2005 & 2008. Schmitt's teams have accumulated 322 regular season wins since the franchise's inception and have finished at-least in the top-half of the division standings for every year but two. Also the owner of the Shoe Box and Rookies Sports Bar in Black Earth, WI, Steve is actively involved in the community and is a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Vern Stenman - Owner / President

Stenman, the 2003 and 2005 Northwoods League Executive of the Year, enters his thirteenth season in the NWL, and first as President, having spent the previous eight seasons as the team's General Manager. His innovative promotional ideas and steady vision have contributed to the team's rising attendance each of the past seven seasons—including consecutive 200,000+ attendances from 2006 to 2009. Prior to Madison he was an intern and later Assistant GM for the St. Cloud River Bats from 1997 to 2000 before taking a corporate account position with the NHL's Minnesota Wild for a year. Stenman and wife Kallie have one child, daughter Chloe Mae, who turned two in September. He is originally from St. Cloud, MN.

Conor Caloia - General Manager

Caloia re-joins the Mallards after most recently serving as the Director of Operations of the Wilmington Sharks of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League. Under his management, the Sharks hosted the 2009 CPL All-Star Game and were named the '09 CPL Organization of the Year. Prior to moving to Wilmington, Caloia worked as the Director of Marketing at the Western Athletic Conference. At the WAC he was responsible for developing marketing, branding, and promotional campaigns for the Division I conference. Caloia previously worked for the Mallards from 2003 to 2006, starting as an intern and working his way up to Assistant General Manager. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in Journalism with a focus on Strategic Communication. A newlywed, Conor married in August to wife Rachel. He is originally from St. Charles, Ill.

Jerrad Radocay - Assistant GM / Corporate Sales & Public Relations

Radocay enters his first year as Assistant General Manager in Corporate Sales and Public Relations, after having spent the past three seasons as the head of both departments. He was an Operations Intern for the Mallards in 2006. A 2004 graduate of Winona State University and member of the baseball team, Radocay is originally from Watertown, WI.

Staehler enters his first season as Assistant General Manager in Ticket Sales and Operations after spending the past four seasons as the head of Group Sales and Operations. He started as an Operations Intern for the Mallards in 2005. A 2005 graduate of UW-Whitewater, Staehler is originally from Kewaskum, WI.

Mike Then - Assistant GM / Marketing & Corporate Service

Then enters his first season as Assistant General Manager in Marketing and Corporate Service, after having spent 2009 as the head of both departments. He spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons as the General Manager for the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Prior to Green Bay, Mike spent four seasons with the Mankato MoonDogs -- one as a Media Relations Intern and three as an Assistant GM. A 2003 graduate of Minnesota State University-Mankato, Then is originally from St. Paul, MN.

John Schmeltzer - Director of Group Sales & Operations

Schmeltzer enters his seventh season with the Mallards and his fifth as the Group Sales & Operations Manager. He was a Marketing/Operations Intern in 2004 and Marketing Director in 2005. Schmeltzer completed his Masters degree in Sports Administration from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in May 2005. He is originally from Oregon, WI.

Aaron Reinen - Ticket Sales and Operations Manager

Reinen enters his first season as the Ticket Sales and Operations Manager. He was a Tickets/Hospitality Intern for the Mallards in 2008. Also a 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, in which he earned his Masters degree in Sports Administration, Reinen is originally from nearby Sun Prairie.

C.J. Thieleke - Field Manager

Thieleke enters his sixth season as the Mallards Manager after the team posted a 38-29 record in 2009, nearly missing the playoffs for only the second time during his tenure. In 2008 he led the team to a First-Half South Division Championship and an appearance in the 2008 NWL Championship Series. He has made the playoffs three times ('05, '06, '08) en route to a 195-156 career record in Madison. Prior to being promoted to Manager, Thieleke was an assistant coach with the Mallards for two seasons, including the 2004 Championship season. He is also an assistant coach at MATC in Madison. Thieleke was the 1994 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and played at the University of Iowa for three seasons before spending two seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization.

Dave Boyer - Head of Concessions & Internal Affairs

Boyer enters his sixth season with the Mallards as the Head of Concessions & Internal Affairs. His unique food specials continue to be a huge hit around the ballpark, including the Spam Slam, the Glazer Donut Bacon Cheeseburger, and the White Trash Special. He is also the General Manager of Rookies Sports Bar in Black Earth. Boyer is originally from Oconomowoc, WI.

Dr. John Orwin - Team Physician, UW Health Sports Medicine

Dr. Orwin is board certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship trained in sports medicine. In addition to his role as the head orthopedic team physician for the Madison Mallards, he provides medical coverage for Badger Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Ice Hockey, Track/Cross Country, Swimming/Diving, Crew, Tennis and Golf, as well as Men’s Wrestling, Women’s Softball and Volleyball. He specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the shoulder.

Dr. David Bernhardt - Team Physician, UW Health Sports Medicine

Dr. Bernhardt specializes in pediatric and adolescent primary care sports medicine. He is board certified in pediatrics and fellowship trained in sports medicine. In addition to his role as the head medical team physician for the Madison Mallards, he provides medical coverage for Badger Men’s Basketball, Cross Country and Track, as well as Women’s Volleyball, Crew, Cross Country and Track. His special interests include all medical problems related to athletic activity and musculoskeletal syndromes related to running.

Matthew Uftring--Head Athletic Trainer, UW Health Sports Medicine

Matt is a licensed athletic trainer with UW Health Sports Medicine and is in his second year with the Madison Mallards. In addition to his athletic training responsibilities for the Mallards, Matt is the Head Athletic Trainer for Waunakee High School. He also assists in coordinating medical coverage for the Madison Marathon and enjoys working in the orthopedic clinic setting with UW Health Sports Medicine physicians.
