Steve Schmitt - Owner

Schmitt's passion for the game and extraordinary attention to customer service are two big reasons why Mallards baseball has become a summertime mainstay in Madison. Since 2001 the Mallards have made the playoffs five times, including a Northwoods League Championship in 2004, and appearances in the Championship Series in 2005 & 2008. Schmitt's teams have accumulated 359 regular season wins since the franchise's inception and have finished at-least in the top-half of the division standings for every year but two. Also the owner of the Shoe Box and Rookies Sports Bar in Black Earth, WI, Steve is actively involved in the community and is a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Vern Stenman - President

Stenman, the 2003 and 2005 Northwoods League Executive of the Year, enters his fifteenth season in the NWL, and third as President of the Mallards, having spent the previous eight seasons as the team's General Manager. His innovative promotional ideas and steady vision have contributed to the team's rising attendance each of the past eight seasons—including consecutive 200,000+ attendances from 2006 to 2011 and a Summer Collegiate Baseball League record 213,467 fans in 2011. Prior to Madison he was an intern and later Assistant GM for the St. Cloud River Bats from 1997 to 2000 before taking a corporate account position with the NHL's Minnesota Wild for a year. Stenman and wife Kallie have two children, daughter Chloe Mae turned four in September, and son Bode was born in December. He is originally from St. Cloud, MN.

Conor Caloia - General Manager

Caloia enters his third season as General Manager. In 2011 Caloia was recognized as the Northwoods League's Executive of the Year. In 2010 he re-joined the Mallards after most recently serving as the Director of Operations of the Wilmington Sharks of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League. Under his management, the Sharks hosted the 2009 CPL All-Star Game and were named the '09 CPL Organization of the Year. Prior to moving to Wilmington, Caloia worked as the Director of Marketing at the Western Athletic Conference. At the WAC he was responsible for developing marketing, branding, and promotional campaigns for the Division I conference. Caloia previously worked for the Mallards from 2003 to 2006, starting as an intern and working his way up to Assistant General Manager. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in Journalism with a focus on Strategic Communication. Conor and wife Rachel have been married for two years. He is originally from St. Charles, Ill.

Aaron Reinen - Customer Service & Operations Manager

Reinen enters his third season as the Ticket Sales and Operations Manager. He was a Tickets/Hospitality Intern for the Mallards in 2008. Also a 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, in which he earned his Masters degree in Sports Administration, Reinen is originally from nearby Sun Prairie.

Brian Sather - Director of Food/Beverage

Sather enters his first season as the Director of Food & Beverage and Corporate Service Manager. He will resume his role as Director of Operations as well. He was an Operations Intern in 2009 and then oversaw the Operations Department along with the Great Dane Duck Blind in 2010. A 2009 graduate of the University of Minnesota, in which he earned his Bachelors Degree in Sport Management, Sather is originally from Pine Island, Minnesota.

Jake McGhee - Corporate Account Manager

McGhee will start his first season as a Corporate Account Manager after being hired as a seasonal operations employee in March. He will work with local businesses to create business development and client and employee entertainment solutions. McGhee is a 2010 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his bachelors degree in Finance and Spanish. He hails from Hartland, WI.

Monica enters her second season as a Corporate Account Manager. Previously Miyamoto has worked for Life Time Fitness (Asst. Sales Dept. Head) and the Minnesota Twins Baseball Club (Marketing Associate). Monica received her Undergrad in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2003, and completed her Masters in Sport Administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2005. She hails from La Crosse, WI.

Nolan Brown - Corporate Account Manager

Nolan enters his second season with the Mallards as a Corporate Account Manager. He previously worked as a Branch Manager for a local bank, and spent seven years with Edward Jones Investments in St. Louis. Nolan received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and Broadcasting from Pittsburg State University (KS) in 2001. He is originally from St. Louis, MO.

Megan Maloney - Corporate Service Manager

Megan will resume her role as a Corporate Service Manager after her first season in 2011. She graduated in December 2010 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor's Degree in Consumer Science-Consumer Affairs. Megan previously completed internships with Clear Channel Communications, Good Karma Broadcasting, and Madison Magazine. She is originally from Mukwonago, WI.

Eric Elger - Corporate Service Manager

Elger will enter his third year with the Mallards. He completed a marketing internship in 2010 and served as a part-time inside sales representative in 2011. Elger enters his new role of Corporate Service Manager for the 2012 season. Elger will work with corporate partners of the Mallards to develop strategic marketing campaigns. He graduated in 2011 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a degree in Consumer Science - Consumer Affairs. He is originally from Kenosha, WI.

Tyler Isham - Group Sales & Public Relations

Isham will start his full time career with the Mallards in Group Sales and Public Relations. He completed a public relations internship in the summer of 2011 for the Mallards. Isham will work with non-profit groups to create fundraising and group outing opportunities. He graduated in 2011 from Beloit College where he earned a bachelors degree in Communications. He is originally from Walworth, WI.

Lauren Phelan - Ticket Operations Specialist

Phelan is a veteran Mallards employee starting her tenure with the Mallards in the concession stand in 2003. She has worked in various areas for the Mallards since then, most recently in the ticket office. Phelan will now fill the role of Ticket Operations Specialist. She will help manage the box office and work with Mallards 7-Game Pack, box and season ticket holders. She earned her bachelors degree in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2011. She is originally from Madison, WI.

Dave Boyer - Head of Concessions

Boyer has been Head of Concessions for the Madison Mallards since 2004. Boyer, who has over 40 years of experience in the food service industry is also the General Manager of Rookies Food & Spirits in Mazomanie, WI. Boyer is an integral part of the day to day food and beverage operations at the "Duck Pond." Boyer hails from Oconomowoc, WI.

Dr. John Orwin - Team Physician, UW Health Sports Medicine

Dr. Orwin is board certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship trained in sports medicine. In addition to his role as the head orthopedic team physician for the Madison Mallards, he provides medical coverage for Badger Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Ice Hockey, Track/Cross Country, Swimming/Diving, Crew, Tennis and Golf, as well as Men’s Wrestling, Women’s Softball and Volleyball. He specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the shoulder. |

Dr. David Bernhardt - Team Physician, UW Health Sports Medicine

Dr. Bernhardt specializes in pediatric and adolescent primary care sports medicine. He is board certified in pediatrics and fellowship trained in sports medicine. In addition to his role as the head medical team physician for the Madison Mallards, he provides medical coverage for Badger Men’s Basketball, Cross Country and Track, as well as Women’s Volleyball, Crew, Cross Country and Track. His special interests include all medical problems related to athletic activity and musculoskeletal syndromes related to running.

Matthew Uftring - Head Athletic Trainer, UW Health Sports Medicine

Matt is a licensed athletic trainer with UW Health Sports Medicine and is in his third year with the Madison Mallards. In addition to his athletic training responsibilities for the Mallards, Matt is the Head Athletic Trainer for Waunakee High School. He also assists in coordinating medical coverage for the Madison Marathon and enjoys working in the orthopedic clinic setting with UW Health Sports Medicine physicians.
